As if the the P85D and its ‘Insane’ 691hp wasn’t enough, those crazy enough, errrr… rather, ‘Ludicrous’ enough were looking for more oomph, Tesla has just announced the addition of a ‘Ludicrous Mode’ for both the Tesla Model S and upcoming Model X.
The announcement came during today’s Tesla press conference which came as a surprise to the world via a tweet from Elon Musk.
Ludicrous Mode Upgrade Highlights
- 1/4 mile: 10.9 seconds
- 0 – 60mph: 2.8 seconds (3.2 for 10% heavier Model X)
- Tech details:
- 10% acceleration improvement (1.1Gs)
- Car will draw 1500 Amps, but ‘Ludicrous Mode’ will only be available between 30-60mph due to traction limitation at lower speeds.
- Upgrade cost for P85D:
- New owners: $10,000
- Existing owners: $5,000
